A two vehicle crash this morning has left one man dead. 69 year old James V. Elwood of Torrington, Wyoming died at the scene of a crash that happened at 9:25 a.m. this morning on US Highway 85 at the intersection with WY State Highway 151. The crash was approximately four miles west of LaGrange on US 85.

Mr. Elwood was driving a passenger car southbound on US 85 approaching the intersection with WY 151. 89 year old John W. Sussex of LaGrange was traveling west on WY 151 in a pickup truck approaching a stop sign at the intersection with US 85 intending to cross all of US 85 and continuing west onto Bear Creek Road. Mr. Sussex failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign to Mr. Elwood which resulted in a "t-bone" style collision.

Neither driver was wearing their seat belt during the crash. Mr. Sussex was taken to Community Hospital in Torrington, Wyoming and hospitalized.

Traffic was detoured around the crash scene without having to temporarily close the highway. Failing to yield at an intersection controlled by a stop sign is being investigated as the contributing factor in this crash. Charges are pending. This marked the projected 43rd highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015. There were 40 fatalities during this same time period in 2014.
