The 77th crash fatality in Wyoming occurred on July 23rd, 2014 at approximately 9:44 pm on Interstate 80 east of Rawlins. 52 year old Cynthia Sanchez of Rawlins, Wyoming was the front seat passenger in a small pickup being driven by 55 year old Alvin B. Warren of Rawlins, Wyoming. The pair were traveling west when they were rear-ended by 25 year old Vasyl L. Zabiiaka of Elmwood Park, Illinois who was operating a 2011 Volvo semi truck.

The initial force of the crash sent the pickup in to the barrow ditch as it slid sideways, tripped and rolled over coming to rest on the driver's side. Cynthia Sanchez was not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the pickup during the crash and was dead at the scene.

Vasyl Zabiiaka did not stop but exited the interstate to a truck stop in Rawlins where he called in a crash claiming he had hit a deer. Through the trooper's investigation, Zabiiaka's involvement in the crash became clear and Zabiiaka was charged with reckless driving, following too close and leaving the scene of a crash. Other charges against Zabiiaka are pending as the investigation continues.
