Officials broke ground Wednesday on the new  Southeast Wyoming Welcome center to be located at 1-25 and the new HighPlains Road interchange south of Cheyenne. To date $16.1 million has been appropriated for the entire project with $11.8 million secured for construction. The State Energy Office has contributed and additional $100,000 to support renewable energy systems and educational opportunities. The land was donated to the State of Wyoming by Neil McMurry, Swan Ranch LLC. Diane Shober, Director of the Wyoming Office of Tourism says research shows that the key to a successful visitor center is to be easily accessible and highly visible.
