Northern Arapahoe Finally Get Settlement Checks

There’s good news for the Northern Arapaho Nation in Wyoming.

The check is in the mail.

A case involving the sale and consolidation of Native American territory ended in the $3.4 billion Cobell settlement authorized $1.9 billion for land consolidation.

The Claims Settlement Act of 2010, requires the money to be spent within 10 years.

But since the Interior Department only starting making offers in December of 2013, three years later, some were worried that the money might revert to the U.S. Treasury.

Tribal leaders also expressed concerns about the pace of the land consolidation effort.

But now, the Arapaho Business Council is making the announcement that the Settlement Checks will be mailed out on April, 21 2014.

Each Tribal Member will receive $6,300.00. The tribal members should start receiving their checks on April 23, or 24, 2014.

ALL Tribal Members are encouraged to open Checking or Savings Accounts with the local banks in Lander or Riverton or wherever they are residing (out of county, out of state, etc.)

Due to the large amounts being disbursed, the banks will not cash the Settlement Checks without an account.
