You've probably seen people order this way, "I'll have a triple burger, large fries, chocolate sundae and.....a diet coke." Diet drinks may not be all that good for you and here's why.  People are saying that another name for the diet drinks are, "Chemical Cocktails." Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight why some are saying that drinking diet sodas is a bad idea.

  1. It's Confusing - They say that your body will become confused as artificial flavors have more intense sweeteners which can induce more insulin, thus sending your body into fat storage and causing you to gain more weight, rather than lose it.
  2. Your Smile Is At Risk - Research is stating that if you drink enough of this stuff, you might look like the next meth addict in Cheyenne. Studies showed the same amount of tooth erosion as found in those who do drugs.
  3. A Really Bad Mix - According to research from Northern Kentucky Institute found out that using diet soda as a low-cal cocktail mixer has the dangerous effect of getting to "three sheets in the wind" status much quicker sugar-sweetened drinks.
  4. It's Really Depressing - Recent studies conducted at the American Academy of Neurology showed that over a ten year period, those who consumed more than four cups or cans of diet soda a day were about 30% more likely to have depression than those who stayed clear of these sugary drinks.
  5. You're Bones May Not Be Diggin' It - If you're a woman and over age 60, then you're probably aware that you are at risk of osteoporosis. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition discovered that female cola drinkers had about 4% lower bone mineral in the hips than women you didn't touch the stuff.
