A 17-year-old Newcastle girl died in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Laura Chord was driving a sedan east on U.S. Highway 16 about six miles east of Newcastle when the vehicle drifted into the westbound lane at 6:45 p.m.

A SUV, driven by 34-year-old Newcastle woman Jimmie Josephson swerved to avoid Chord's car, but the two vehicles collided.

Chord was wearing her seat belt but died at the scene.

Josephson and three passengers in the SUV were taken by ground ambulance to Weston County Health Services in Newcastle. All occupants in the SUV were properly restrained.

Fatigued driving is being investigated in this crash that marked the 15th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 42 highway fatalities in this same time period in 2015.
