Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and the Wyoming Neurology clinic have partnered to open a new epilepsy center on the fourth floor of the hospital.

Center Medical Director Dr. Prabhu Emmady says before the local center opened epilepsy victims had to travel 100 miles to Denver for diagnosis and treatment. Emmady also says the center will be helpful to local doctors in testing and diagnosis of patients.

Emmady  says the center will also be useful for patients suffering from non-epileptic seizures. He says roughly 1 in 25 people are afflicted with epilepsy. Some are born with the malady, but most develop the problem, which has a variety of causes, either as children or adults.
