A crash involving two vehicles resulted in the 100th fatality on Wyoming highways for 2014. It happened on WY 120 about 42 miles northwest of Thermopolis, Wyoming at 11:08 a.m. last Friday.

41 year old Christian M. Tafoya of Loveland, Colorado was traveling northwest on WY 120 on a motorcycle. 40 year old Tyler M. Schwab of Cody, Wyoming was traveling southeast in a pickup. It was reported that Mr. Schwab reached down to get a bottle of water and momentarily took his eyes off the road. This distraction caused the truck to enter into the opposite lane of travel and hit the motorcycle. The crashknocked Mr. Tafoya off the motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Tafoya was taken by helicopter ambulance to Billings, Montana where hedied. Driver inattention by Mr. Schwab is being investigated as the contributing factor in the crash. Schwab has been cited for failing to maintain a single lane of travel and for careless driving.
