Million Dollar Bond Set in Evansville Homicide

Samuel Renner

Bond has been set in the case of an individual accused of killing a man outside of a Evansville bar last July.

Twenty-one year old Samuel Renner is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first degree murder, six counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of possession of a deadly weapon.

According to court paperwork, Renner is accused of shooting 41-year-old Todd Callies to death in the parking lot of Taylor’s Sports Bar.  This, after pointing firearms at a group of individuals outside the bar.

Renner appeared before Judge Thomas Sullins in Natrona County District Court, Thursday afternoon, wearing an orange jail jumpsuit.

During the hearing, defense attorney Kurt Infanger addressed the court on the issue of bond.  Renner had previously been held without bond, and Infanger said that now that it has been decided that Renner will not face the death penalty, he asked that bond be set in the case.

Infanger requested a bond of $200,000, with the provision that Renner would submit to wearing a G.P.S. tracking anklet, participate in daily reporting and wear a dermal sensor that would detect if Renner was consuming alcohol.  Infanger further requested that Renner be allowed to leave home for work and to attend church.

Assistant District Attorney Dan Itzen objected to the $200,000 bond, citing that Renner was accused of “two of the most serious crimes a man can face,” and also expressed concern that the company that monitors G.P.S. tracking in town is overseen by the same private investigator that was working for Renner’s defense team.  Infanger responded that supervision of the G.P.S. anklet would be overseen by a company in Riverton.

After hearing from both sides Judge Sullins ruled that the bond be set at $1,000,000 cash or surety.

During the hearing, Renner’s trial date was also set for late February of next year.
