Mead Talks About Education Department Investigation

Mead talks about Education Department Inquiry (Amy Richards\TSM)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) —Gov. Matt Mead says the inquiry into state Education Department operations succeeded in its goal of providing transparency and information. A governor-appointed inquiry team reported information last week about possible misuse of federal money for unauthorized programs and trips in the state plane under Superintendent Cindy Hill’s administration.

As a result, Wyoming House Speaker Tom Lubnau is asking for a special committee to be empaneled to investigate Hill’s administration of the Education Department. Hill has denied any wrongdoing and says she’s a victim of a witch hunt by the Legislature.

Mead says he hasn’t pushed the Legislature for an investigation on the matter, but he says it’s important to let everyone, including the federal government, know what has been going on. He did add however that ” one of the frustrations in all of this is that it has absorbed a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of angst that goes with it for everyone.”
