Governor Matt Mead signed a proclamation declaring Wednesday June 18th as "Elder Abuse Awareness Day" in Wyoming.

Dorothy Thomas with Adult Protective Services in the Wyoming Department of Family Services,  says elder abuse is a growing problem in Wyoming.

She adds a lot of the abuse deals with financial exploitation, either by a caregiver or a family member. She says those cases can be difficut to prosecute because it is an often under-reported crime. Criminals often exploit the victim's vulnerability, dimished judgement, frailty, and perhaps lack of family support.
