Gov Mead Closing Remarks to Legislature (Courtesy of Renny MacKay)

Cheyenne- Gov. Matt Mead told Wyoming lawmakers that they should be proud of their public service and their willingness to make tough decisions. Mead addressed both the Wyoming House and Senate on Wednesday afternoon, just before the final adjournment of the general legislative session that started in early January. Mead told the lawmakers he had been in Washington DC last weekend for a governors’ meeting. He said he heard from Republican and Democratic governors alike that they disagreed with the way Congress is handling automatic budget cuts. Mead noted that the Wyoming Legislature followed his call to cut most state agency budgets by 6.5 percent in anticipation of future flat energy revenues. He told lawmakers it’s better for politicians to tackle hard decisions now than to leave problems for future generations.
