Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says his understanding is that Safeway officials plan to move ahead with a new, more modern store at the Cole Shopping Center even if the store doesn't get a liquor license.

Kaysen says store officials want the liquor store as a convenience for their customers. But the mayor says whether the license is granted or not, the plan is to continue with plans for an upgrade of the store facility.

The mayor also says he wants to make sure people understand that if a liquor store is built on the shopping center, it will have a seperate entrance and not be directly connected to the grocery store. The city council finance committee on Monday voted 3-0 not to recommend approval of a transfer of a liquor license to the store.

Despite that vote, however, the full city council will make the final decision on the issue.
