Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says over 1,500 housing units are being built or planned for the next 3 to 4 years.

He says those projects range from single family dwellings to twin homes to apartment complexes. Saddle Ridge, Thomas Heights, Waterford Square and Frontier Apartments are among the building projects.

He says the city has issued 352 residential building permits through the end of July this year, compared with 289 over the same time in 2014, for an increase of 63 permits. Local economic development officials such as Dale Steenbergen with the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce have been saying for years that a shortage of housing was hindering efforts to grow the local economy.

The mayor says there is an even bigger increase in city commercial building permits, which are running 492 ahead of 2014 figures for the first seven months of this year.
