You may be a manly man, but you’ll never be “Punch a bear in the face” manly like Rick.

61-year-old Canadian Rick Nelson was walking his dog when he spooked a black bear cub, causing it to cry out. That brought a 320 pound mother bear charging at full speed at former featherweight boxer Rick, who’s first swing missed and hit the bear in the lips and teeth cutting Nelson’s knuckles. The bear lashed back, cutting Nelson’s chest and back.

With no time to run, play dead or climb a tree, “‘I had the perfect shot to take, I did an underhand and hit it right in the snout.

The cub let out another squeal and begin to amble out of the area. This bear was 320lbs and when it stood up it’s taller than I am. It turned around and it was snorting blood. It looked at me, and I thought, ‘Oh no. Here it comes,’” he said. “It just turned back around and walked away like nothing ever happened and followed the cub. So I really lucked out there.”

While there is no video of the actual incident, this video presents another possible response to a bear confrontation.

Twitter response included “Sudbury man punches black bear in face" is the second most Canadian headline imaginable.
