Man Pleads Guilty in Cheyenne BOPU Payment Theft

A 29-year-old Cheyenne man who stole nearly 60 checks from the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities' payment drop box has pleaded guilty to two counts of forgery.

Nicholas Hill entered the plea Monday in Laramie County District Court as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Court records say Hill broke into the drop box in October 2016 and stole 58 payments. In the following month, four BOPU customers reported their payment checks being forged and cashed.

Hill pleaded not guilty to three counts of forgery in February 2017 and denied a fourth forgery charge in the case last January.

Hill faces a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison for each count. His sentencing date will be set as soon as a presentence investigation is complete.
