A Lamar, Colorado man is dead and his wife in the hospital following a crash on Interstate 25 about 16 miles north of Kaycee Monday morning.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol says 66-year-old Clifford VanCampen and 65-year-old Brenda VanCampen were changing a tire on a car dolly behind their motorhome, when they were hit by a semi.

Clifford died on scene and Brenda was taken to Johnson County Healthcare Center in Buffalo before being flown to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.

The semi driver, 56-year-old Tammera Simmons of Creal Springs, Illinois, was uninjured.

Simmons told troopers that a strong gust of wind pushed the truck and trailer she was driving into the emergency lane. The location of the VanCampens at the time of the crash is also being investigated to determine if one of them was in the travel lane at the time of the crash.

Potential charges are pending as the case has been referred to the Johnson County Attorney's Office for review.
