Phase III of the 19th Street Reconstruction Project is scheduled for the week of August 22, resulting in the closure of parts of Warren Avenue, Central Avenue and 19th Street as well as East 19th Street.

Those streets are among the busiest in the downtown area.

The intersections of Warren Avenue and East 19th Street and then Central Avenue and 19th street will each be closed for three weeks in sequence. City spokesman Scott Smith says local businesses and residences will be allowed access and detour signs will be posted.

The project itself includes installation of new water lines, sewer line work, new manholes and asphalt improvements as well as other work on 19th Street between Carey and Warren.

Less intensive work is scheduled for 19th Street between Pioneer and Carey Avenues, consisting of the placing of a new asphalt wearing course. Phase I of the 19th Street Reconstruction Project was implemented between Warren and Morrie Avenues last year at a cost of $3.4 million. Phase II of the project between Crow Creek and Pioneer Avenue was completed last month at a cost of $5.4 million.

Phase III is expected to cost a little over $1.2 million. An open house on Phase III is scheduled for August 17 from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. at St. Mark's Parish Hall, 1908 Central Avenue.
