A single vehicle crash on January 11th resulted in the death of 45 year old Martin Rubio Jr. of Lovell, Wyoming. The crash happened at 6:40 p.m. on US 20 approximately ten miles south of Basin, Wyoming.

Mr. Rubio was driving his SUV southbound on US 20 at an unsafe speed on the snow and ice packed roadway. He lost control while on a right hand curve. After overcorrecting, the vehicle entered into a counter-clockwise spin and left the roadway down a steep embankment. After leaving the highway down the embankment, the truck rolled one and one-half times.

Mr. Rubio was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected during the crash. He was taken to South Big Horn County Hospital in Basin and later died.

47 year old Cynthia Gilmore, also of Lovell, was a passenger in the SUV during the crash and was also ejected as her seat belt was not in use either. She was initially taken to South Big Horn Hospital and then to the Billings Clinic in Billings, Montana where she was hospitalized. Her status is unknown.

Travelling at a speed too fast for the snow and ice covered condition of the road and suspected impaired driving are contributing factors being investigated in this crash. Mr. Rubio marked the sixth highway fatality in Wyoming for 2015.
