I tried to quickly move a hot log in my fireplace over the weekend and burned my thumb. After soliciting solutions to help with my burn, I received many different ways to treat it.  Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight the different solutions that people gave me to treat my burn. Here are some of their actual ideas that people suggested I try. Not that I would do it, but here are my top 5 that amused me the most.

  1. Soak It In Gasoline - This friend said he had "field tested" it many times. He said that it would dissipate the heat and then told me, "Good Luck with It." Good luck with me trying this one.
  2. Raw Egg Whites - She told me to rub in on there every 10 minutes and the burning sensation will go. Then just wash it off. I wonder if Snopes would approve?
  3. Soy Sauce - Soak a bandage in soy sauce to kill the burning. It was also suggested to add a little fried rice with it.
  4. Pickle Juice - All they said was, "It works for us." I may have to try that one next time.
  5. A Potato - I was told to cut a potato in half and it will take the heat out and alleviate the blistering.

The Top 5 at 7:45 airs weekdays with me, Gary Freeman and is sponsored by First Education Federal Credit Union. What are some of you remedies for burns? Other options I was advised to use were: mustard, toothpaste, butter, Vasoline, Banana Boat Aloe Gel, amputate it and "man up."
