LCCC Announces Hiring of Two New Deans
Laramie County Community College has announced the hiring of new deans for the School of Business, Agriculture and Technical Studies as well as the School of Health Sciences and Wellness.
Dr. Jose Fierro, LCCC Vice President of Academic Affairs, says the new dean for the Business School is Melvin O. Hawkins, who has been department chair for Business and Public Service at Midlands Technical College in Columbia South Carolina since 2008. Fierro says in addition to an extensive academic background Hawkins served 20 years in the U.S. Army, and was also an elected member of the Richland One Middle College Board of Directors. Hawkins is scheduled to assume his duties at LCCC on July 1.
Fierro says LCCC has also hired Therese "Terry'' Harper to lead the School of Health Sciences and Wellness.Harper comes to LCCC from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, where she served on the faculty as well as program coordinator for the Health Care Systems Administration (HCSA). Harper also served on the Big Rapids City Council for eight years, and began her career as a nurse. She is scheduled to begin her new job at LCCC on July 15th, according to Fierro.
He says LCCC also expects to announce the hiring of a new dean for the School of Mathematics and Science in the next few weeks.
