CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — An openly gay Wyoming lawmaker has renewed her call for the Legislature to outlaw discrimination against gays.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports Laramie Democratic Rep. Cathy Connolly urged passage of the measure after a Denver-based federal appeals court struck down Utah's ban on gay marriage on Wednesday.

Previous attempts in Wyoming to ban anti-gay discrimination have failed. The proposals would have made it illegal to discriminate because of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Currently, Wyoming law bars discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin and economic status.

Connolly encouraged people to ask Gov. Matt Mead whether he supports extending discrimination protections to gay, bisexual and transgendered residents.

Mead's spokesman, Renny MacKay, said the governor is focused on defending the state's ban on gay marriage from legal challenges.
