Laramie Senior Earns Top Marks in AP Math and Science

Aidan McDonald, a senior at Laramie High School, has been named a Wyoming winner of the 2011 Siemens Foundation’s Advanced Placement Awards for earning the highest math and science AP exam scores in the state, which earns him a $2,000 scholarship. McDonald shares the recognition with Keely Oltion, a senior at Sheridan High School.

McDonald has taken five AP courses to date, with his favorite being Music Theory. He participates in band and alpine skiing at LHS and plans to study engineering in college. In 2011 he was part of the National Honor Society and earned the Wyoming Scholars Award from the University of Wyoming. He also placed first in the Wyoming State Science Fair for Middle School Physics back in 2006.

The Siemens Award for Advanced Placement annually awards $2,000 to one male and female student from each state, as well as $5,000 to two national winners. The awards were created to inspire the next generation of leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This year, 101 high school students in 50 states were recognized.
