A Laramie man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a motorcycle crash in Oregon.

Oregon State University student Ryan W. Petersmann, 19, was pronounced dead on Highway 101 near milepost 185 north of Florence, Ore.

A news release from Oregon State Police says Petersmann was northbound on a 1984 Honda motorcycle at a high rate of speed and used the center turn lane to pass other vehicles just before the crash.

A 2012 Hyundai sedan that had been westbound on Sutton Lake Road stopped before turning left onto Highway 101. Petersmann's motorcycle hit the sedan at about 2 p.m.

Petersmann was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai, 28-year-old Blaine L. Kahle, was not hurt.

According to state police, witnesses said the motorcycle did not have a headlight and had been traveling at a high rate of speed.

Rain reportedly limited visibility in the area at the time of the crash.

Oregon State Police may release more information as it becomes available. We will update this story if we learn more.
