The Laramie County Sheriff's Department is warning residents about the latest phone scam.

Captain Linda Gesell says the office received a report from a resident who had been left a voicemail from an individual indentifying himself as a Lieutenant from the Sheriff's Department. The message said an arrest warrant had been issued for that individual, an that the resident should call (307) 460-1123 for additional instructions. Gesell says it is a scam.

Captain Gesell says the sheriff's office is advising anyone who may receive a call regarding a warrant, to contact the Warrants Division at (307) 633-4732 to verify its validity.

Captain Gesell says if you were to receive a call about a warrant from the Sheriff's Office, the warrant would have already been filed and issued through the courts. She adds if there is a fine involved, it would be paid directly to the courts and not to any law enforcement officer.

Residents are urged to call the Laramie County Sheriff's Office at 633-4700 to report any calls you believe are a scam.
