RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) — Wind generation across Wyoming generated more than $4.4 million in taxes for state and local coffers.

The State Department of Revenue says Albany, Carbon, Converse, Laramie, Natrona and Uinta counties share in $2.7 million of the tax revenue. The state's portion of the revenue at slightly more than $1.7 million.

Loyd Drain, of Wyoming Infrastructure Authority, says wind generation taxes benefit state and local governments, but at a cost.

Drain tells the Rawlins Daily Times (http://bit.ly/1CT9Vrv) http://bit.ly/1CT9Vrv) that the state would see more interest in developing Wyoming's world-class wind if it weren't for the tax.
But he says the demand for green energy is only increasing, which makes Wyoming wind a more valuable potential resource.
