The first day of school for all Laramie County School District#1 schools is today (Aug.29).

Both the school district and the Cheyenne Police Department have issued warnings to motorists to obey reduced speed limits in school areas, not pass school buses with flashing red lights, and observe crosswalks.

District officials are reminding motorists that all buses in the state are now equipped with stop arm cameras to catch traffic violators. District officials say the cameras have caught ''hundreds" of violations in the last couple of years.

People who pass buses displaying the flashing lights are subject to hefty fines and may be ordered to make a mandatory court appearance. District officials are predicting an increase in student enrollment for the upcoming school year. Laramie County has partially avoided the economic downturn that has plagued much of Wyoming the past couple of years.

Because of that, the district has been one of the few in the state that has been seeing increased student enrollment, especially in the lower grades.
