A spokeswoman for the Laramie County Sheriff's Department is reminding local residents about Wyoming laws on marijuana.

Captain Linda Gesell says the legalization of the drug in Colorado doesn't change the fact that it is still illegal under Wyoming law. She says state law classified possession of three ounces or more of the drug as a felony, while less than that amount is a misdemeanor. Gesell says since the Colorado law only went into effect on January 1, it's too early to say what, if any, impact that will have locally.

She says one potential impact could be that the Sheriff's Department and other agencies that drug test job applicants may have to step up the screening process to identify marijuana users.
