Laramie County: Meeting Violation Unintentional

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Laramie County commissioners say they didn't mean to violate the state's open meeting law by moving up a discussion of off-track betting.

The meeting of all five commissioners was scheduled to begin at 2:15 p.m. on Monday. Instead it took place sometime between 1 and 2 p.m. without any public notice.

Commissioner Diane Humphrey told the Wyoming Tribune Eagle (http://bit.ly/1jU765Q ) that the board started the meeting early because a preceding meeting with the sheriff's department ended earlier than planned. She said it was a "dumb thing to do."

Commissioner Buck Holmes says it wasn't a deliberate attempt to violate the law.

The law requires governing bodies to provide at least eight hours of notice to change meeting times.
