LANDER, Wyo. (AP) — The Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming is denouncing homophobic graffiti discovered at a church in Lander.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports the graffiti were discovered Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church.

The Right Rev. John Smylie is bishop of the diocese. He issued a statement saying he was praying “that those responsible will be held accountable and have their hearts changed.”
Smylie called on Wyoming citizens to stand with and pray for “those targeted in the Lander community.”

Lander abuts the Wind River Reservation. Diocese spokesman Bobbe Fitzhugh says two Episcopal churches on the reservation had been vandalized in the recent past.

He says the vandalism in both incidents was racially motivated.
