Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak says local law enforcement is making progress in reducing gang-related crime, thanks in large part to a multi agency unit that focuses on gang activity.

In the wake of a shooting early Monday in the Frontier Park area that left a local juvenile hospitalized, Kozak says gang-related crime in the Cheyenne area remains a problem, although the chief says the local problem is much less severe than in Denver or Greeley. But Kozak says because of the work of the CAGE-or Cheyenne Area Gang Enforcement-Unit, local cops now have a better handle on the situation. Kozak says the unit has identified about 150 gang members in the Cheyenne area and knows much more about  local gang related crime than was the case 2 or 3 years ago. That unit includes representatives of the Cheyenne Police Department, Laramie County Sheriff's Department and the FBI among other agencies.
