Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says the possibility of having live horse races ''has been discussed" over the past couple of years.

But he adds several things would have to happen before the races could be held,. He says one possible location would be the track at Frontier Park, which he says is owned by the city. But since Cheyenne Frontier Days has a long term lease on the property they would have to be part of the discussion as well.

Kaysen also notes new ordinances allowing for the races and setting up guidelines would probably have to be passed by the Cheyenne City Council.

Kaysen says based on what has been seen in communities that have live horse races it's possible horse races could provide a boost to the local economy. But he says ''a lot of pieces would have to fit together" before horse racing in Cheyenne could become a reality.
