Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says his budget proposals for fiscal year 2013--which starts July 1, 2012--are moving ahead on schedule. The mayor notes the city council held a workshop on the budget on May 18th, and the City Council Finance Committee on Monday approved the proposal.

Kaysen's proposed budget for 2013 is about $49.6 Million, or 1.8 percent less than the original budget for the current fiscal year (2012). The city will receive about $1.1 Million less in direct state funds in each of the next two fiscal years, and Kaysen says most of that has been made up for in cuts in city purchases and training programs. Some projects have also been deferred , such as a new phone system for city hall. The full city council is slated to take up the mayor's proposed budget on second reading at it's next meeting on May 29th. The budget must go through three readings and win approval from the full council before it can take effect.
