Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen is proposing a city budget of $54.6 Million for Fiscal Year 2014, which begins on July 1, 2013.

Kaysen says the budget assumes a utility rate increase to the city of approximately 7 percent. The budget would also include an increase of 3.4 percent for city sanitation customers. That number is determined by the consumer price index inflation rate for Cheyenne as of the fourth quarter of 2012.  The sanitation fee increase will be considered by the city council as a seperate budget item.

The mayor is also asking for a 2.25 percent pay raise for city employees, noting those workers have had only 2 raises in the last four years. Kaysen also says he wants to increase city employee pay to keep valuable workers from taking better-paying jobs. Kaysen's budget also includes a sales and use tax increase of 2 percent. The proposed budget must be approved by the full city council before being finalized.
