Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says a possible purchase of the area in downtown Cheyenne commonly referred to as "the hole", as well as the Hynds Building, by Laramie County Community College for off-campus housing is strictly in the discussion stage at this point.

Currently the city only owns about a third of the hole, with a Kansas company owning the remaining portion. The city has been negotiating for the purchase of the remainder for several months, but so far no agreement has been reached. Kaysen has in the past mentioned several possible uses for the property assuming the city can work out a deal for the entire property, including possibly leasing or selling the property for a hotel or similar venture.

The  property on East Lincolnway has been vacant since a fire ravaged the existing building on the site several years ago, and the open space is widely considered an eyesore in the downtown business district.
