Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says that while he doesn't see why people need to bring guns in public buildings, city officials are still planning on how to handle the issue in case it be comes legal.

A proposal which has passed the state House of Representatives would allow people with concealed carry permits to bring guns into all public buildings except courtrooms.

The mayor says that while he supports the right to bear arms, he doesn't "understand the absolute need to carry firearms in to do city business".

But he says he and other city officials have discussed what sort of security measures to implement in case the proposal becomes law. He says the security changes would focus on identifying who might be carrying firearms if that becomes legal, while still respecting their right to do so.
