Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen will be honored in mid-May in Washington D.C. by the International Code Council for his commitment and contributions to building safety as part of the 2012 Elected Officials of the Year Awards.

Besides Kaysen, others being recognized for their contributions to building safety include: U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert, ( R-Illinois) and Idaho State Senator Dean L. Cameron, R-Rupert.

Kaysen was nominated for the award by Jon Narva, Fire Prevention Chief for Cheyenne Fire and Rescue. Kaysen, during a press conference Tuesday said he was "proud to accept this award on behalf of all the City of Cheyenne employees and residents of Cheyenne.

This is the second year the Code Council has presented the ICC Elected Official of the Year Award.
