Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen said again on Monday that layoffs of city employees are not currently being considered as a way to balance the city's fiscal year 2013 budget, which takes effect July1, 2012. The mayor says that work on the budget is moving forward and layoffs at this point are not being considered, although he does say the city faces some tough budget decisions and he declined to absolutely rule out layoffs. Cheyenne will receive over $1 million less in state money for each of the next two years as a result of decreased direct funding for municipalities approved by state lawmakers during the recent legislative budget session. The mayor has said previously the city may have to make some cuts in purchases and other areas to balance the budget. The mayor's budget proposals will go to the full city council in June before being implemented.
