Kayla Woodward Receives 1st Team All-Conference Honor

Wyoming junior forward Kayla Woodward was one of two Cowgirls to earn recognition Sunday, as the Mountain West Conference announced its 2014 All-Conference team and individual award winners.

Woodward earns First Team All-MW honors for the first time in her career. She finished third in league play in scoring at 16.7 points per game, with an added 6.9 rebounds per game. Woodward led the MW in made 3-point field goals per game at 2.9. She also shot 41.9 percent from beyond the arc, ranking her fifth. Woodward scored double figures in 13 of the 18 conference games.

This is the third post-season honor for Woodward. She was Second Team All-MW last year and Third Team as a freshman.

Senior Fallon Lewis earned her first honor, as she was named Honorable Mention All-Conference. She led the conference in rebounding at 9.9 per game and added 13.8 points per game. Lewis registered 14 double-figure scoring games and had seven double-doubles in league play.

No Cowgirls were named to the Second Team, All-Defensive Team or All-Freshman Team.

Joining Woodward on the First Team were Utah State’s Jennifer Schlott, who was chosen as the MW Player of the Year; Fresno State’s Taylor Thompson, who was the Co-Defensive Player of the Year; Boise State’s Deanna Weaver, who was also selected as the Newcomer of the Year; and Cierra Warren of San Diego State. Nevada’s Mimi Mungedi was the other Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Boise State’s Yaiza Rodriguez and Colorado State’s Ellen Nystrom were named Co-Freshmen of the Year; and CSU’s Caitlin Duffy earned the Sixth Player of the Year honor.

2014 MW Coach of the Year was Ryun Williams of Colorado State.
