Jury convicts Australian of robbing Wyoming bank

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A federal jury took just over an hour on Thursday to convict an Australian man who says he robbed a bank in Wyoming so he could give money to the homeless.

Acting as his own attorney, 40-year-old Corey Donaldson presented no evidence in his defense.

In his closing argument on Thursday, Donaldson likened himself to the colonists in the American Revolution who broke the law because they put their principles first.

Donaldson took more than $140,000 from the U.S. Bank in Jackson on New Year’s Eve by telling the branch manager that there were explosives planted outside the building.

Investigators arrested Donaldson in Utah, where he had checked into a luxury hotel.

Prosecutor Todd Shugart urged the jury to convict Donaldson, saying there was no doubt about his guilt.
