SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — A man serving life in prison without parole in the 2009 slaying of a Sheridan businessman has lost his bid to have his sentence reduced.

The Associated Press reports a judge rejected the request from Dennis Poitra Jr. on Thursday.

Poitra was convicted of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary and conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary in the shooting death of Robert Ernst.

Two teenagers who were also convicted in Ernst's murder were initially sentenced to life without parole, but their sentences were changed making them eligible for parole after the U.S. Supreme Court barred mandatory life sentences for juvenile killers.

Poitra was 18 at the time of the killing and wasn't covered by that ruling.
