Judge Campbell Denies TRO in Hill Case, sets Hearing Date [UPDATE]

A judge will hear arguments on March 14 in a lawsuit filed by state Superintendent Cindy Hill that challenges a new law removing her as head of the Wyoming Department of Education.

Hill was in Laramie County District Court Tuesday afternoon. District Court Judge Thomas Campbell denied her request for a temporary restraining order to stop the Wyoming Legislature from continuing to implement a reorganization of the state department of education.

Hill is suing the Wyoming Legislature and Governor Matt Mead over a bill that was signed into law last week by Governor Matt Mead, which stripped her of her duties as head of the Wyoming Department of Education.Hill’s suit claims the law is unconstitutional.Governor Matt Mead appointed former legislator Jim Rose as the interim director of the agency and the state will conduct a search for a permanent director.

Judge Campbell said he would schedule a hearing at a later date to hearing arguments on Hill’s request for a preliminary injunction.Judge Campbell said he would reserve two hours for arguments on the preliminary injunction.Judge Campbell did not set the date at Tuesday’s hearing.
