Joshua’s Storehouse to Give 27,000 Pairs of Shoes to Wyoming Children

Anthony Pollreisz, K2 Radio

A Casper-based need organization spent most of its Wednesday trying to figure out how to give thousands of new shoes to Wyoming school children.

Joshua’s Storehouse chief executive officer Jay Martin says his organization received 27,000 pairs of shoes from the California-based shoe company Sketchers early Monday morning.

“Because we’re in the center of the state, they have chosen us to be their disbursement group, and we’re really pleased with that,” Martin said. “Joshua’s Storehouse is a distribution center, so we distribute all of these things that come into us statewide.”

Martin says 4,000 pairs were given to the Natrona County School District. Several other individual schools and districts also received shoes on Wednesday.

“Campbell County is coming down and they’re picking up 3,000 pairs of shoes, Douglas is on its way, Glenrock has already been here, and we’re contacting everybody to the north and Torrington really soon,” Martin said. “We want to give shoes to every school district in the state.”

Martin says Joshua’s Storehouse gave away 160,000 Lego toys to at-need children throughout Wyoming during the 2013 holiday season.

The shoes were purchased using a 10-to-1 matching grant from the charity Kids in Distressed Situations.
