JACKSON (AP) Officials have found a location to build the Jackson area's first compressed natural gas filling station and hope the state will pick up the cost.

The Jackson Hole Energy Sustainability Project plans to ask the state for a $744,000 grant to build the station at a gas station on South Highway 89. The Jackson Hole Daily reports that the grant would be used to buy and install equipment, which would then be leased to the gas station, Shervin's Independent Oil Center.

The project's board, which includes Jackson and Teton County leaders, unanimously approved a resolution supporting the project on Wednesday. A previous plan to build a CNG station next to the Maverick Country Store fell through and the board had trouble finding a gas station willing to offer CNG.
