For a second straight year there are numerous questions surrounding the Wyoming Cowboys as they prepare for a new season on the basketball court.

Practice for 2016-17 is underway. Gone is all-everything guard Josh Adams, who was the Mountain West Player of the Year. He led UW in scoring, rebound, assists, steals and more.

There was also the coaching change after the 2015-16 season, as Larry Shyatt decided to step down, and Allen Edwards has taken the reigns.

Last season featured 80 percent of the roster being freshman and sophomores. It was the fourth-youngest in the nation. The Cowboys enter the new season with nine upperclassmen and seven underclassmen on the roster. Two players must sit out due to NCAA transfer rules.

Leading the way will be a native son in senior Jason McManamen. He and Morris Marshall are the only two seniors on the roster.

McManamen started all 31 games last season. He averaged 14.4 points and 3 rebounds per game. McManamen shot 44 percent from beyond the arc last season, which was second in the Mountain West and 15th in the nation.

The senior from Torrington dishes on his new role as a senior leader; how this team has come together; the adjustment to Coach Edwards and more.

The Cowboys return four starters and nine lettermen from a team that ended up 14-18 overall and 7-11, tied for eighth place in the MW. UW was picked 10th out of 11 teams in the MW men’s basketball preseason poll that came out last week.

Wyoming’s first game will be an exhibition game in Jason McManamen’s hometown of Torrington on Nov. 3.
