Inmate Death Under Investigation

The death of a 19-year-old man who had been an inmate at the Laramie County jail is still being investigated, according to a spokeswoman for the Laramie County Sheriff's Department.

Captain Linda Gesell says Hunter Johnson was arrested on Dec. 19 at 3 a.m. by the Cheyenne Police Department after he was in a disturbance at the Wal Mart store on Del Range.

Johnson was charged with interference with a police officer, Breach of Peace and being a Minor under the influence of alcohol. Gesell says Johnson appeared in Circuit Court on Dec. 22, after which he was returned to the jail.

She says soon after that Johnson was found to be unresponsive in his jail cell. A medical emergency was declared, and Gesell says CPR was performed on Johnson, and he was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where he died on Dec. 27.
