At 2:24 pm Tuesday June 18th a tornado was spotted near Denver International Airport.  The tornado passed just 5000 feet east of the Terminal A gates with winds of 97 mph being clocked by wind sensors that were then knocked off-line.

Grayson Shaffer, an editor at Outside Magazine, said this about the experience,

"I'm not sure which kind of irony this is, but on my way to chase tornados for the first time Denver International was put on lockdown because this guy decided for form up right over the runway. TSA hustled everyone into the bathrooms, which double as tornado shelters. When I stepped outside, it was pretty much right overhead and then moved off to the east.

There have been no reports of damage or injury at the airport.
