WASHINGTON (AP) - Many experts are afraid that failure to reach an agreement to avoid the looming "fiscal cliff" could send the country into recession. Fears of such a scenario, along with the effects of Superstorm Sandy, appear to have affected consumer spending this holiday. MasterCard Advisors SpendingPulse says retail sales in the two months before Christmas were the weakest since 2008.
