Highway Patrol Denies Ticket Quota

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Highway Patrol is defending requirements for traffic citations.

State troopers are being told to meet citation requirements or risk missing out on pay raises or job promotions.

Patrol Col. John Butler says he does not consider it a quota policy. Butler says the policy is a way to show whether the patrol is meeting its goals.

Documents confirmed by Butler indicate troopers in Laramie and Albany counties are expected to make 732 traffic stops each per year.

It also instructs them to write at least 55 seat belt violations per year to meet standards.
