A 65 year old Nebraska man was killed Sunday afternoon when his semi was blown over on I-25 near Bordeaux. The Wyoming Highway Patrol says Carl F. Eick of Ainsworth, Neb., was southbound pulling a van  type trailer. A “No Light Trailer Advisory” had been posted from Douglas to the Wyoming/Colorado border on Interstate 25.

In the Wheatland area strong winds were gusting from 65 mph to 70 mph. Just after Eick’s combination crossed over the bridge deck at the Bordeaux Interchange the strong crosswinds blowing from west to east blew his tractor trailer combination over onto the driver’s side.  The combination slid on its side into the median and came to rest blocking the passing lane on the northbound side of the interstate.  Eick was trapped in the cab and had to be extricated by fire department personnel.

Eick, who was wearing his seat belt, was declared dead at the scene.
